Anyone For Tennis?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved Wimbledon. As kids, we used to barrel out on to the road after watching it to re-enact the matches. Being a brunette, I was always Gabriella Sabatini, and while she was never quite as good as Stefi Graf, I took solace in the fact that, at least she was way hotter… Now, I can appreciate the game on a somewhat deeper level. And while I am in awe of the unbelievable skill and physical prowess of the players, it’s actually their mental strength that I admire the most…They believe so strongly in themselves-they have to believe. They are out there on their own with no one to talk to, no one to turn to but their own self. They battle through what’s thrown at them, chase any opportunity they can and they never give up. No matter how far behind they fall, how exhausted they feel or disappointed they get, they have the ability to dig deep within themselves. They don’t look back or forward but play every point, moment to moment. And then the champions, they are the ones who, when their backs are to the wall and the pressure is really on, that’s when they produce their best. They can turn adversity to advantage and above all, raise their game when they are challenged. Tennis as a metaphor for life? Play on…
